A Kitchen Remodeler Who Starts by Looking for What to Keep

Sisteroutsiderpoetry is a kitchen remodeling company working out of Carlsbad Village Dr in Carlsbad. Most of our days are spent in homes built during the 1980s and early 1990s, in La Costa, Calavera Hills and the planned communities that filled the hills east of the freeway in those years.

Those kitchens have a lot in common. They were built closed off from the living areas, with soffits over the uppers, tile counters, oak cabinets and a light fixture that never lit the counters. They were also, in many cases, built reasonably well. Framed cabinets with solid wood face frames, walls that are still plumb, and a sink wall that already has good drain and supply lines inside it.

That combination is why we work the way we do. Before we talk about design, we open cabinets, look into the soffit, check the electrical panel and ask what bothers you about the room day to day. Sometimes the answer is a genuine layout problem that only a new plan will fix. Sometimes it is dark counters, sagging doors and a range hood that blows grease back into the room, and those can be solved without moving a single pipe.

How We Handle a Project

We draw the kitchen to scale, including the clearances around the island or peninsula, and we mark where plumbing, gas and ducts already run so you can see what a change actually involves. Any wall that might carry load is reviewed by a structural engineer. Plans for walls, circuits or plumbing that move go through the City of Carlsbad for a permit, and the inspections happen at the stages the city requires.

If your home sits in a community with an HOA, anything that changes the exterior, such as a new hood vent through a wall or a changed window, may need architectural review first. We will tell you when that applies so it does not hold up the schedule later.
